One Year Later: A Quick Glance Back

I started writing on this blog one year ago today.  I had just returned from a summer living in New York City where I realized the disconnect many faced between their craft and ideal lifestyle.  This blog was a result of me realizing the difference, which is merely a choice, and wanting to do something about it before I set off for my senior year of college.

One year later, I’m running my own business.  I’m being paid to consult and work with other emerging businesses.  I’ve received newspaper coverage.  I’ve traveled coast to coast.  I’ve made valuable contacts and friends online, many of whom I’ve met in person.  And most importantly, I’ve met a creative equilibrium of expression through writing and art that fulfills an intellectual outlet, all while in the midst of a recession.

This isn’t to boast.  You can do it it too.

Because, if there is one thing I have learned, it is this:  You have a choice.  We all do.  And, only you are responsible for that choice.

I’m confident that what lies ahead is more exciting than what has already occurred, which I will continue to reflect on.  I’d encourage you to subscribe to my blog if you don’t already.  You can follow me on Twitter here, and keep up with my intellectual musings on Delicious here.

Thanks for sticking with me.

  • Congrats Alex! I realized the same sort of disconnect as well last summer after I finished my internship in San Francisco. I feel that I am embarking on the same path that you did a year ago. Things right now don't make much sense but I hope that if I am proactive everything will start falling into place. Anyways I appreciate you sharing your insights they are really motivating as I try to figure out what I exactly want to accomplish in my life.
  • Thanks. Glad it helps.
